Luis Ernesto classified for chess competition in San Salvador

After accumulating 7.5 points out of 11 possible, the Grand Master (GM) Luis Ernesto Quesada (2551), from Ciego de Ávila, placed fourth in the qualifying tournament for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, and thus obtained the ticket for that appointment of the area in the coming summer.

This time the player had a slip in the second round against the Dominican José Araujo and, although he later recovered, he had no chance of getting on the podium in a tournament that was played in quick games of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds after each move.

In the fight, the GM Carlos Daniel Albornoz (2,571), from Camagüey, won the title, after an impressive result of 9.5 points out of 11 possible, while Yaniel Forgas (2,317) from Santiago de Cub, also led the women's section with 8, 5 units and Yerisbel Miranda (2269) earned the fourth ticket for San Salvador with six lines.

Cuba added a total of 17 points in the men's division and did not face difficulties to deserve first place in a tournament that was played via the Internet on Saturday and Sunday. The four Antilleans will witness the debut of the Science Game in Central Caribbean multi-sport events.

Now, Luis Ernesto will take a week off to participate, at the beginning of February, in the final of the National Championship that will be held in Holguín and where Yasser Quesada (2604) from Villa Clara will try to retain the throne from last year.
