In what some consider one of the matches with the highest technical level and, in addition, combativeness on the part of both sides, Ciego de Ávila beat Camagüey in a penalty shootout and thus won the right to be in the grand final of the National Women's Field Hockey Championship that takes place on the shiny synthetic field from Ciego de Ávila.

However, excuse me for the partials from Ciego de Ávila perhaps that it is not the news on Monday's date, but rather the elimination of the multi-champions from Las Tunas against the cast of Sancti Spíritus, in a match that also had to be decided from the penalty spot.

Although this result can be considered the most striking event of the match, it is fair to say that the women from Sancti Spiritus had already "shown their nails" when, in their debut, they lost to the hosts by a close score of 1-2. On that occasion, Yayabo's team owned the midfield for a large part of the match.

Nevertheless, back to the match between Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, it was the visitors who launched the first cry of joy with the goal by Yunia Milanés in minute 15; a few moments later the scoring leader of the contest, Marianela López, achieved parity.

Therefore, they went to rest. It was evident that those from Camaguey came with the intention of giving the second great surprise of the tournament because, in the 47th minute, in a play from a penalty corner they achieved what could well have been the defining one, but Marianela was in charge of denying it again with her shot in 55.

In the definition by penalties, the nervousness of those who received and the excellent work of both goalkeepers, meant that the five attempts of each team only managed to equalize at one goal and it was at the height of the eighth shooter, Yurima Soria, that was the one that delivered the goal of victory.

Now, Ciego de Ávila and Santi Spiritus teams will be in charge of discussing the title next Thursday starting at 9:00 in the morning. The day before, at the same time, Las Tunas and Camagüey will settle the bronze medal; while this Tuesday, it will be the match between Santiago de Cuba and Villa Clara to know the fifth and sixth places.
