Díaz-Canel: Social indiscipline and corruption threaten the most sacred of the socialist process

When intervening in the debate on confronting corruption, crimes and illegalities, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, valued the dialogue held by the deputies on this issue as very sincere and honest.

Each of the interventions expresses knowledge of reality, concern and will to improve society "with the desire that we all have to achieve prosperity and the greatest possible social justice that the Cuban people deserve, as part of the process of socialist construction."

He added that this legislature has been characterized by openly debating issues and with enormous commitment to the problems that concern the people. "I think this has to be the National Assembly that the country needs."

The president commented that crimes, social indiscipline and corruption threaten the most sacred of the socialist process, the greatest possible social justice, and citizen security. Likewise, these demonstrations deepen social inequalities, an issue on which we are also working.

“There is a manifest imperial effort to create a climate of insecurity and citizen mistrust that fractures popular unity in our country. For this reason, any criminal act is constantly exaggerated, mainly cases of violence and, in particular, those of gender violence”.

The leader explained that there is an incisive look at the situation in the country, however, "social deterioration, police brutality, crime, murders, violent acts in schools, are increasing every day in North American society."

The Cuban State and Government cannot be oblivious to illegal economic activities, he stressed, nor to the manifestations of corruption and crimes that emerge from a parallel, submerged and dirty economy, which penetrates and destroys our social life.

“We have discussed with attitude and expressed our rejection. We have a consensus on that, but now the most important and decisive thing is up to us, which is to act rigorously”.

To accomplish this, the revolutionary forces must continue to articulate with the leadership of the Party, with the participation of our entire institutional system, the mass organizations, the people, the FAR and the Minint.

Díaz-Canel reiterated that speculative activity, corruption, laziness that causes so much damage, mischief, bureaucracy, lies, vulgarity, indecency, the annoyance caused by disrespectful behavior must be faced.

We must work for the proper incorporation into society of citizens who have served criminal sanctions. On the other hand, tax evasion must be combated, as well as sanctioning those people who benefit from the illegal currency market.

“We cannot allow those who do not work, do not contribute, and move in an illegal environment to earn more and have better living conditions than those who really work honestly, contribute and are protagonists in the history of the daily heroism of the Cuban people.”

To achieve this purpose, the president assessed, it will be essential to promote the responsible behavior of the institutions, of society and in particular of Cuban families, "who have responsibility and much to contribute to this fight that we are calling for."

"We are going to face it with unity, courage, justice, determination, order, discipline and effectiveness," the president concluded.
