The Venero protected area

The Venero was approved as a Wildlife Refuge of national significance, by Agreement 6871 of October 18, 2010 of the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers (CECM), subsequently by resolution 1254 of 2015 confirming theadministration of this area by the National Company for the Protection of Flora and Fauna of national significance. It constitutes one of the core areas of the Great Wetland Ramsar Site of the North of Ciego de Avila, identified by Bird Life International as an important area for birds (IBA), where the presence of the subspecies Gruscanadensisnesiotes (Cuban crane in danger of extinction).
