    Empresa de Seguros indemniza a afectados por tormenta tropical Eta Ciego de Ávila

    The Base Business Unit (UEB by its Spanish initials) based in this province, belonging to the National Insurance Company (ESEN by its Spanish initials), paid in advance to 40% of the value of the losses in agriculture caused by tropical storm Eta, the most immediate response in favor of agricultural entities and producers affected by the hydrometeorological phenomenon.

    The engineer Luis Alberto Gómez Peñate, deputy director of the UEB, announced that among the insured entities who required its intervention to compensate their losses are the agricultural enterprises such as La Cuba, which was advanced the payment of $495,000; Arnaldo Ramírez ($237,100) and Cuba soy ($166,240).

    The specialist said that he advanced the payment of more than $1,600,000 with policies that basically include banana, corn, beans, taro and sweet potato crops.

    The value of the reports made by insured clients exceeds $19 millions, although they have so far certified just over nine million, a commission that the Intermar agency, responsible for assessing losses in the most diverse points of the territory, fulfills.

    Of the total number of producers with insurance policies in the agricultural branch, 210 have filed claims so far, among entities of the state sector, individual farmers attached to the Credit and Services Cooperatives, Basic Units of Cooperative Production and Cooperatives of Agricultural Production.

    Reinaldo Díaz Pérez, main specialist in the dunning area of ​​the UEB in Ciego de Ávila, said that those insured people and companies who do not make their claim within the established term of 10 days after the storm, lose the right to compensation, as it will only be extended the 30-day term "due to force majeure."

    Also, as regards tobacco, an important exportable product, a level of loss was estimated to be about $33 000, and the insured ones received the corresponding compensation in a short period of time, corresponding to the value of their loss.
