The molecular biology laboratory of the Hospital Roberto Rodríguez Fernández in the municipality of Morón has carried out more than 50,000 RT-PCR samples since its inauguration on October 2 as a result of the devotion to the job and human sensitivity that characterize each day of work in this center.

Dr. Niurys Martín Pérez, deputy director of medical assistance at the institution, explained to Granma that the small number of specialists and support personnel even processed 1,170 samples in one day, a record for the site.

Regarding the fight against SARS CoV, the center constitutes one of the main strengths of the province and the central-eastern region of Cuba due to it has received samples not only from the host province but also from Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Las Tunas, Camagüey and Sancti Spíritus.

Likewise , it is a pillar for the development of a More Hygienic and Safe Tourism in the Jardines del Rey destination, where all the facilities are certified and the number of visitors is growing.

Dr. Juan Carlos Villares Vázquez, director of the hospital Roberto Rodríguez -El Vaquerito-, listed some of the advantages such as the increase in the precision of medical diagnoses, the speed in the decision-making process with patients and, therefore, the decrease in the number of people admitted in the health center and in-hospital stay.

Moreover, he argued that they follow up travelers who enter Cuba through the airports Ignacio Agramonte in Camagüey and Jardines del Rey in the northern keys of Ciego de Ávila, and the patients of the Camagüey's hospitals Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja and Amalia Simony, who are positive to the PCR tests.
