Confirman retroceso en la situación epidemiológica de Ciego de Ávila

The progressive increase in the infestation rates with Covid-19 in the last fortnight, mainly in the municipalities of Majagua (50.8%), Morón (32.7%) and Ciego de Ávila (12.8) reaffirms the possibility this province goes back, in the next few days, from the New Normality to Phase 2 of the Recovery Stage.

This is indicated by the statistics evaluated this Monday at the Meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the Confrontation and Control of Covid-19, where Dr. Ángel Batista Díaz, provincial director of Public Health, stressed that the situation of Majagua and Morón positions them in the Limited Autochthonous Transmission phase, while the figures in the main municipality correspond to Phase 2 of the Recovery Stage.

At the end of this Sunday, the province reported 14 positive cases, distributed equally between imported and autochthonous ones from the municipalities of Chambas (1), Ciego de Ávila (3) and Morón (10). The majority (87.7%) did not evidence symptoms and it was not possible to identify the source of infection in three patients.

Dr. Batista Díaz reported that 187 patients remain hospitalized, 43 of them as suspects, and it is carried out control actions on 181 travelers settled in the municipalities of Ciego de Ávila, Morón, Chambas and Baraguá, of which 69 of them are pending to the RT-PCR test results.

"The Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Roberto Rodríguez General Teaching Hospital in the municipality of Morón, under these circumstances, maintained high productivity with the processing of 1,051 samples to detect the SARS-Cov 2 virus in patients from Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey and Las Tunas ”, he highlighted.

The director of Public Health also stressed that strategies are being evaluated to expand admission capacities, both in hospitals and in isolation centers.

The situation becomes more complex due to the spread of the virus in the country and the flow of people to and from Ciego de Ávila's territory, for personal or work reasons.

Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas, Governor of the province of Ciego de Ávila, indicated to maintain vigilance and control over work brigades from the eastern zone, so that the PCR-RT tests are organized before starting their work and compliance with security protocols is guaranteed.

The greatest efforts to prevent the contagion and spread of the virus should be directed at institutions where there is a concentration of people, with priority in hospitals, schools and day care centers.

In response to opinion matrices that allude to alleged complexities in educational centers, Martín Venegas specified that schools have not constituted a focus of disease transmission, taking into account that the cases identified in the classrooms have been controlled and are a consequence of negligent attitudes of adults outside these entities.

“You have to act rationally in order to facilitate the progress of the school year. We will only close where conditions indicate that it is prudent to avoid contagion and the spread of the virus, he emphasized.

He asked Public Health to increase preventive and control actions in the entities linked to these activities to maintain the vitality of the economy, mainly food production and the provision of essential services, .

In the current context, and in response to repeated requests from the population, it was announced that the chain of stores Caribe took up regulated sales to the population, which will help minimize crowds of people in shopping centers and expand the possibilities of purchasing products of first necesity.

Restrictive measures will be implemented this week due to the worsening of the epidemiological situation, that are aimed at containing the new coronavirus. A greater accompaniment of the forces of internal order, that will redouble their vigilance in order to enforce the regulations established by the Ministry of Public Health and the highest leadership of the country will be added to it.
