Ciego de Ávila ante el cambio de fase epidemiológica

The imminent change in epidemiological phase in the province of Ciego de Ávila was predictable due to the continuous increase in infestation rates, mainly in Majagua (89.8%), Morón (47.0%) and Ciego de Ávila (27.6 %); on January 15, these first two municipalities were declared in the autochthonous transmission phase and the third one in phase 2, by the Temporary Working Group, chaired by Miguel Díaz-Canel.

In this sense, the territory that passed to Phase 3 is preparing to guarantee the vitality of the economy and the provision of essential services to the population.

During the meeting of the Temporary Provincial Work Group, it was specified that since January 8 the trend towards an increase in those infected people has been accentuated and, this Friday, the confirmation of new positives to Covid-19 in the territories of Primero de January (3), Florencia (3) and Baraguá (1).

The statistics of the last days, particularly those of the closing on January 14, (21 positive, of which 20 of them are Cuban citizens), show that most of the cases are associated with viral circulation and not with the presence of travelers.

Dr. Ángel E. Batista Díaz, provincial director of Health, drew attention to cases with an unknown source of infection, which make it difficult to contain the chain of transmission. Faced with the problem, he called to reinforce the work with epidemiological surveys and sensitize the affected population in order to declare all their contacts.

The highest health authority in the territory highlighted the predominance of asymptomatic cases (61.9%), which favor the growth of contagiousness rates.

Of the total, 14 patients are in the age group between 19-39 years, a figure indicative of health effects in younger people.

The high productivity of the Molecular Biology Laboratory, located in the Roberto Rodríguez General Teaching Hospital, in the municipality of Morón, constitutes a strength, in the complex epidemiological scenario, which until this Thursday had accumulated more than 97,580 RT-PCR tests.

In the current context, Batista Díaz insisted on the prohibition of hospital visits, where only companions will be admitted, in necessary cases, who must remain with the patients for a period of seven days to make a change.

This Friday, the highest authorities of the Party and Government in the province demonstrated proactivity during the Meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the Confrontation and Control of Covid-19, by indicating immediate actions to guarantee the transportation of medical and support personnel towards the field hospital and isolation centers, the availability of medical resources and supplies necessary for food, and the continuous improvement of the infrastructure of the places where suspected and confirmed patients will remain.

Moreover, the increase in admission capacities in hospitals and isolation centers, and the guarantee of means of transport for the transfer of workers to the centers for the production of food and goods and services that will remain active.

In addition, the incorporation of students and professors from the Faculties of Medical Sciences to the research work in the communities is foreseen and the operation of the consultations for the care of patients with acute respiratory infections will be promoted, based on their favorable impact on the detection and containment of the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

The ministries of Education and Tourism evaluate the potential of educational institutions and camping facilities for its use as isolation centers, if necessary.

Conditions are created for the care of children infected with Covid-19 in the Ciego de Ávila's territory based on guidance from MINSAP and given the appreciated increase in the country, the Provincial Director of Public Health highlighted.
