    Ciego de Ávila's science against Covid-19

    Ciencia avileña contra la Covid-19

    The existence of 37 research projects reveals the integration of the Ciego de Ávila's scientific pole to the actions to prevent, confront and mitigate the effects of Covid-19, from the approaches of the exact and social sciences.

    Medicine encourages inquiries aimed at clinical and epidemiological characterization, the evaluation of behavior in communities of the capital city, the manifestations in patients with chronic diseases, the particularities of acute respiratory infections, evaluations of active investigations based on experiences such as the ones from the municipalities of Ciego de Ávila and Florencia; and the results of studies of the population at risk.

    From their own point of view, studies are also developed on the effects of hyperimmune plasma in the treatment of infected patients, the genetic risk factors associated with clinical severity, the quality of care for vulnerable patients; the strategies for the participation of the community, the family and the individual in the promotion and prevention of health on Covid-19, and the dissemination, distribution and transmission of the disease by health areas and municipalities with risk factors.

    Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences study the effectiveness of traditional natural medicine and the effects of natural extracts, in the form of sweeteners, in the treatment of diabetic patients recovering from Covid-19.

    Psychologists plan strategies and draw protocols for the care of healthy, infected and recovered patients. Professors of Psychopedagogy design systems of activities to support the fight against the disease, a page is maintained on Facebook (University Welfare Group of UNICA) to guide and share initiatives; Psychological assistance is provided in isolation centers and a helpline with concierge services remains active in the municipalities of Florencia, Morón, Ciro Redondo, Chambas and Bolivia.     The Computer Sciences develop an Epidemiological Surveys Management System and inquire about the application of the Ciego de Ávila's web Covid-19 and PostCovid-19.     “Professors from the University Máximo Gómez Báez and Law's operators of the Provincial Company of Legal Services in Ciego de Ávila, through the project to systematize legal knowledge for legal advice and, motivated by promoting the link between university and company, they presented Regulation, legislation and health during the Covid-19 stage.

    “This material is aimed at bringing the population closer to the new reality, through a compilation of questions frequently asked to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and their respective answers, which constitute a guide of legal orientation to face the COVID-19 on Labor Law.

    "It includes a glossary of terms recognized in the International Health Regulations, useful for its incorporation into the vocabulary in current circumstances," said the MSc. Miguel Salazar Rodríguez, Subdelegate for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Territorial Delegation CITMA in Ciego de Ávila.

    The research project Diagnosis and orientation of physical activities for adults and elderly, concluded its investigative stage and is applied in patients affected with the pandemic Covid-19, based on the contribution of exercises to the improvement of lifestyles and recovery of functional capacities.

    In an interview with el Portal del Ciudadano Avileño, Salazar Rodríguez stressed that temporary work groups were organized in different lines, which carried out community interventions and worked on the improvement of forms of action, social communication and social media, through the Provincial Council of Social Sciences.
