Cuba looks itself in the mirror and seems tired, but does not feel defeated, even when does not have time for makeup. It puts on its mask and begins a new day. It is ncredible how after 11 months the country continues with the same impetus to fight for life, in a battle no less risky than those faced previously.

The coronavirus not only affects health, but a weakened and blocked economy supposes deficiencies for its children, now accentuated with paralysis here and in much of the world.

The need to protect life and the impossibility of importing resources, due to the border closures applied by its most important commercial business partners; they have put their organizational skills to the test. As a great mother, protector of more than 11 million children, she thinks strategically and achieves equity in the distribution of her limited goods, ensuring that none are left helpless.

Cuba is a daring nation and rearranges its economy because not even in the most difficult circumstances it can afford a break to improve the quality of life of its children. It goes to the hospital, but also to the furrow, to the industry, to the scientific center ... Its ability to do so at 62 years old is surprising.

In an effort to get ahead and save the economy, it makes tough decisions that create differences, however, translates into collective benefits. It has not lacked critics (of the destructive ones), especially those who have always tried to make firewood from a "tree" whose trunk does not allow it to fall, or even bend with the strong "winds".

Cuba, in times of Covid-19, is also a paradigm for the world. Four vaccine candidates for the immunization of their descendants against the disease, multiple alternative treatments, thousands of men and women impregnated with altruism and willing to risk their lives to save that of others, millions of patients assisted for free, primary health care strengthened and oriented to the timely detection of suspicious patients, a health system trained to anticipate, control and learn. Learn, even, from mistakes, because it is not exempt from mistakes and recognizes them with the pride of those who know how to correct them.

Cuba continues to be the Mother who is not satisfied with the well-being of its children and shares its well-being with its neighbors - even with those who have insulted the country on several occasions - because the solidarity and internationalism in which it was forged does not recognize limits.

It wakes up every day, with the joy of seeing its children recover, with the pain of seeing them die and the strength to fight for those who live. It does not rest or renounce to educate them in self-responsibility, with the most severe measures if circumstances require it. it does not give up trying to correct inappropriate behavior, it reprimands and punishes them rigorously ... but it never, never leaves them alone, is always taking care.
