El insulto de mi ex vecina

I blocked her. I do so not because her criteria were different ones, I do it due to the Revolution also educated me to respect the diversity of opinions; but because of the indignation she produced in me by insulting her country and denying her family; because I can expect nothing from those who turn their backs on their loved ones for thinking differently (if they are the ones who mark inequality).

I blocked her because she once proudly wore the military uniform that evokes Camilo, however, today she denies that: We will win! and she dared to challenge one of my publications with the phrase Homeland and Life, proclaiming herself the defender of a people and highlighting spots in the "Sun", the "star" that gave that little country girl from Las Palmas, a secluded space in the geography of Chambas, the opportunity to grow and become a trained professional to participate in solving problems.

I blocked her because I was exasperated by her lack of arguments, her ridiculous power of persuasion, her inability to rewrite the history of Cuba…; because perhaps she did not even expose her criteria, but those that someone imposed on her to gain something in return. I only regretted losing a few megabytes and around 30 minutes of my time.

I blocked her because her Homeland and Life is not mine; because her words (not her own ones) ignore the determination of Independence or death!, which emerged with the Revolution of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in 1868, and later became a cry of Homeland or death!, in the voice of Fidel, in the face of the constant threats and the siege of a powerful enemy.

I blocked her because the Cubans who do not love their homeland, do not defend their flag, or respect their heroes, speak to me in an unknown language and I cannot and do not want to understand them; because I do not tolerate the hypocrisy of those who have sung the notes of our National Anthem without feeling it or understanding that "dying for the homeland is living."

I blocked her, simply because I consider myself worthy and incapable of forgetting my roots (where I come from and how I got to where I am); because she numbered me many deficiencies, but she did it from the front sidewalk, with a destructive spirit and without proposing a solution. She did not speak to me of human miseries.

Ailén (now you call yourself Ayln and short your first surname), criticizing my country requires dignity and shame. I am not blinded by passion as you suggest, I am not censored or self-censored, and my speech is not conditioned by other people's opinions.

Freedom of expression is a right that I can also exercise from my work, because I took advantage of the opportunities that the Revolution gave me and, being a country person from your own land, I can become a journalist and later a political scientist, in one of the best universities in Latin America, maybe the world.

Also, you will not have forgotten my mother, who, since she was 24 years old (she is already 54 years old), has managed to survive complicated diseases, as a result of treatments received, free of charge, in the best hospitals in Cuba. Also, and I can say it with the greatest pride, thanks to the solidarity of the residents of Las Palmas, where humble and self-sacrificing people live, capable of sharing what they have to help others, typical qualities of Cubans and with greater values than that of abundance of those countries that you take as paradigms, where paradoxically many people suffer from hunger, unemployment and die of curable diseases.

For this and for many other reasons, I am proud to live in Cuba and I am among the grateful ones. I also judge? Is it part of my professional practice? and I do it with the greatest acuity, but from a revolutionary position, proposing alternatives to improve and advance towards the achievement of a better country. I would never attack my country and flag by applauding and echoing the vulgar, vain and paid speech of a video clip. I would not take much less as a reference to elements that have earned the repudiation of a people, that people that suffers the same deficiencies as you, however, does not negotiate or prostitute their nation.
