Cuba en Idarmis y viceversa

Simplicity, modesty and virtuosity praise Doctor of Science Idarmis Knight Soto when she received an award for Cuban jurist, "profession in favor of the social rights conquered in January 1959 and defended to this day, it is also seen reflected in the Latin American Award in Humanities 2021 ”, granted by the Latin American Academy of Modern Literature and the Academic Society of Ibero-American Historians.

Although the certificate is refering to just a person by defining "for her outstanding career as a jurist and promoting rights in times of pandemic, reaching a continental spread, for the benefit of her countrymen and the Ibero-American community in general"; the Professor of the University Máximo Gómez Báez, from Ciego de Ávila, reiterates that the merit is not only hers:

“The text The Right in Time of Pandemic means Cuba, it is the wisdom and the work of the Cuban professional, it is the product of the Revolution, it is Cuba for health, Cuba for Life and it is the jurists of this Island defending rights.

“It represents my country, province and municipality, because everything I am I owe to the training I have had. It is the empowerment of the Cuban professional, the recognition of social rights regarding education in Cuba.

The project related to rights in times of pandemic arises when an exceptional situation was declared in the nation due to the new coronavirus, an opportunity in which “professors from five universities (Pinar del Río, Havana, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba and Ciego de Ávila ) we decided to do something in defense of rights in our nation and based on Cuba's battle for life and health. It is an expression of what it means for Cuban professionals to fight for the homeland in this complex epidemiological scenario.

"Talking about rights in times of Covid-19 is the same that talking about the protection of a social system, it shows the purpose of wanting to build a better country."

“We cannot fail to mention Ediciones Ávila, whose work was also decisive in conveying, through the book, an essential message: life is beautiful and must be lived, but we have to take care of ourselves, respect the protocols and act with great responsibility.

The Law in times of pandemic, published in Mexico and with an audiobook version to facilitate access by the entire population, helps to advise individuals and state administrations, in the treatment and implementation of laws and resolutions on labor law, applied in our country in the current epidemiological context.

The author specifies that "the population needs to know their rights and duties, while managers require greater legislative knowledge, regarding the new modifications approved by the different ministries."

The efforts of Knight Soto and the group that participated in the creation of the text, are in correspondence with the interest shown by the country's leadership to promote legal culture in the midst of important political, economic and social transformations.

“The Cuban nation is undergoing a very important reorganization process, as part of which dissimilar regulations have come into force and the role of the jurist is reflected in this as a trained professional to enforce Objective No.47 of the Party Conference, consisting of raise the legal and tax culture of the general population.

“I believe that through public hearings, seminars, virtual platforms (audios, videos, WhatsApp groups) and the mass media, fundamentally the Round Table radio and television space, the entire economic and social reorganization process of the country has been clarified."

She, who is also Legal Advisor of the Municipal Government of the Popular Power in Morón, recognizes the integration of the Ciego de Ávila´s scientific pole to the actions to prevent, confront and mitigate the effects of the pandemic. During the year 2020 and the course of 2021 in the territory, more than 30 investigations have been developed from the approaches of the exact and social sciences.

“The projects and programs that have been deployed, together with CITMA, have played a transcendental role. The link between the government, the university and society has been reflected, for example, in the execution of mathematical and population studies that have favored important decision-making.

“Along with the confrontation with Covid-19, the Food Sovereignty and Nutrition Education Program is promoted, which enhances the social right to food. And if we talk about social rights in times of pandemic, it is very wise to address the facilities and efforts made by the Cuban State to guarantee the food of the people, as something essential in the midst of the confrontation and during the recuperative stage of the health crisis. To achieve this, the nation has drawn up an economic and social strategy."

Knight Soto is also integrated into the communication campaign Morón por la Vida, promoted in the City of the Rooster, with the support of local authorities, “to create better habits, respect for health protocols and citizen responsibility, essential issues to avoid the contagion and spread of the disease. This initiative invites us to rethink society and the confrontation with Covid-19, expresses the political will of the local government to be victorious in this battle for survival”.

Speak with absolute passion. In her words, it is easy to discern that Cuba is represented in her, in the same way that this Morón´s citizen feels represented in her homeland, which she enhances and rewards with her daily work.
