Without finding the exact path yet, the implementation works of the geographic information system-web Higia Andariego come to life in this province and contribute to better organize the fight against COVID-19, with the streamlining of internal processes of the Health System in the territory.

Engineer Iraídes Ceballo Suárez, head of the Provincial Department of Informatics and Communications in the Provincial Health Sector, detailed to Granma that with the use of the platform of Geocuba, managers, specialists and, mainly epidemiologists, have at their disposal a valuable instrument to combat the pandemic, with the use of risk maps from the information of the cases, which speeds up decision-making and saves epidemiologists time in field work by having on a computer or mobile the population data and the most vulnerable areas.

«The information is stratified according to the complexity in each place and the tool is used properly, it serves to track in real time from the moment a person is studied until the day they are vaccinated or be discharged”, Ceballo Suárez explained.

«In the same way, compliance with medical protocols can be monitored by Primary Health Care, that is, the entry of suspects (at home or in state institutions), the timely performance of the PCR in real time, the waiting period for the results, and in case of confirmed some positive patient, the system requires the registration of the epidemiological survey to track and follow up contacts».

He added that the preparation of personnel to operate the novel platform finished and at the moment we are working on the creation of databases in health areas, municipal directorates and departments with the intention of streamline platform operation.

Carlos Rafael González Alejo, one of those trained people to work with Higia Andariego, commented that for the use of the platform the character trustworthy of all the accumulated information is guaranteed, since it works directly with the personal identity records of citizenship and argued that among the supports to be used it only requires a computer and access to Internet, always with the due certification of compliance with the rules of Informatic security.
