Una joven adelantada y de su tiempo

Everything in her is harmony. From her face that transmits the expressive serenity that can later be corroborated when it is projected, to her confident and firm walk, of someone whom life has put to the test many times and has ended up applauding, because she always comes out gracefully.

It does not matter if she does it to a full theater, or in a narrower setting, such as the classroom that she loves so much, and even in the warm environment that her family has created, and where cuddles or advice is never lacking, nor the opportune scolding and much less the understanding. Her transparent and clear voice is confirmation of a clear thought.

This March 8, Yeneyd González Rodríguez was assigned, to put it in some formal way, the central words of the provincial act for International Women's Day. Not only because of her status as a member of the National Committee of the Federation of Cuban Women, but also because she has been able to earn her space among Ciego de Ávila citizens although she is very young, thanks to the coherence of her ideals and way of expressing them, which in part she owes it to her students, professional and unquestionably family training, coupled with natural grace, or aptitude "like this, with p", as they say.

It could be said that she combines the best of the beloved father with the lineage of grandmother and mother, because she resembles them, even in the way she uses to speak of her younger sister, her favorite heroine of these times. However, similar apart, what she says and does, has her personal stamp.

In her speech, she mentioned reasons why Cubans are a benchmark at the international level and one of them is the fact that it is the second parliament in the world with the largest number of women. “More than in a position of power,” she asserted, “we have always been present in the country's historical struggle. You cannot talk about the history of Cuba, the history of women's movements, of the gender struggle in the world, if you don't mention Cuban women".

Besides, Yeneyd related that science, sport, culture and education also have a woman's face although the paradigms continue to be Mariana, Celia, Vilma and many others whose life and work is contemplated with total admiration, by previous, present and future generations. This is how the four vaccine candidates, to face Covid-19, count in their work with brave, self-sacrificing women, and the fifth already conceived, which makes us the first nation to assign it to convalescents from the disease, as well it has women on its roster of researchers.

This young woman from Ciego de Ávila, with her feet firmly on the ground, explained that there are still many things to be achieved in terms of empowerment, even though the most general criteria endorse this condition, but she considers that “we are in an advantageous position, because the Revolution is a woman, and she is not only from a substantive point of view, but also because the country's public policies represent her as such”.

This is evidenced by Presidential Decree 198/2021 published precisely this March 8 in the Official Gazette of the Republic, to put into effect the National Program for the advancement of women. Signed by the Cuban Head of State Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the decree establishes that the aforementioned Program summarizes the sentiment and political will of the Cuban State and constitutes the cornerstone in the development of policies in favor of women, while giving continuity in the advancement and development of gender equality in the country, while institutionalizing this right.

The professor, who also works at the head of the Institutional Communication Directorate of the University of Ciego de Ávila "Máximo Gómez Báez", did not overlook the fact that all these results and achievements only serve to exacerbate the intentions of dismantle that reality, from the outside, and take the female figure as the point of the spear or make it the target of their unbalanced pretensions. Thus they call for marches, for women to take the squares, in contempt and promulgating demands. In its sinister montage, it is the women who get up early to queue, they are the resellers of the numbers for those same queues, they are the ones who maintain the homes. Its propaganda and ideologically designed machinery to destabilize, employed female citizens with material needs and certain social situations, an issue that is not ignored or denied by the Cuban State, only that, as Yeneyd said, “it is not the trend and it has not been, because the reality in Cuba is superior to that trend. They try to mock or insult the intelligence of others, in this case ours".

From the podium, and with the attention of all the attendees on it, this little take up arms´ girl, ridiculed those who do not even know how to use conjunctions, which in the semantic order represent the same thing, because “what can homeland or death mean? other than homeland and life? When there is a homeland, there is no death. When there is a homeland, there is life”, and Yeneyd knows it. That is why she says it convinced and also proud. Proud to be one of the Cubans in advance, on an island that overcame countless barriers 62 years ago and whose people, side by side with their men and women, continue to clear the path of Socialism.
