Reconoce Valdés Mesa avances de Ciego de Ávila en programa de soberanía alimentaria

Salvador Valdés Mesa, vice president of the Republic of Cuba, recognized that this province can become the first in the country in which all municipalities complete the 30 pounds per capita per inhabitant of food, vegetables, grains and fruits.

He said during an analysis of the evolution of the Food Sovereignty and Nutrition Education Program that “Ciego de Ávila´s citizens should reach that figure by the end of this year due to the experience of the producers, who know how to harvest various crops, the benefits of the soils and the commitment of the men and women of the sector».

At the end of February, the municipality of Baraguá reached that per capita and three others: Majagua, Ciro Redondo and Primero de Enero are very close to achieving it, while the province in general delivers 28 pounds per person, it is among the most advanced ones in the country in this regard.

The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba exchanged with prominent producers, directors of companies and authorities of the province, with great responsibility in the production of agricultural food and the shipment of food to other territories, especially to the capital.

Osmany Vicente Quintana, mayor of the municipality of Baraguá, explained to Valdés Mesa that all part of the realization of a correct Municipal Self-Supply Program, with the joint participation of the population, agencies, university specialists, technicians, producers, with narrow link between science and the different forms of production, where the Scientific Technical Advisory Council acquires great prominence.

Valdés Mesa was interested in the progress of the Ordinance Task in a state company and in this sense, he held a pleasant dialogue with Carlos Blancos Sánchez, director of the Agropecuaria entity La Cuba, an organization that until now had been forced to make some corrections in the internal ordinance, but without major changes.

“We are aware that our obligation is to produce food for the people, despite the existing limitations, especially with fertilizers and other chemical products, which we substitute by biological products, for the benefit of sustainable agriculture on agroecological bases”, Blanco Sánchez argued.

Vice president Valdés Mesa, accompanied by Carlos Luis Garrido Pérez, president of the Defense Council in the Province and by Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas, listened carefully to the feelings of several managers of productive bases committed to the Food Sovereignty Program, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture with the objective that every month 30 pounds of agricultural products reach each Cuban, of them 15 of meats, 10 of vegetables, two of grains and three of fruits.
