La Constitución que queremos, proclamamos y defendemos

For the young Ciego de Ávila`s doctor, Yenisey Mora Fergunson, the proclamation of the new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, on April 10, 2019, has been one of the most transcendental and unforgettable moments that she has lived.

"I can assure you that, saving distances and circumstances, I equalize my integration into the Henry Reeve Brigade and the moment when I went to Pakistan to fulfill my first internationalist mission, as a member of that heroic detachment," she says and is target of the emotions experienced on both occasions.

The deputy for the municipality of Majagua, and a professional from the Nephrology Service of the Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital, had the honor of participating in the session where the Constitution of Guáimaro and the Magna Carta were found and merged, for which more than 86% of Cubans, on February 24th had voted ¨Yes¨ in a constitutional referendum, an expression of legitimate continuity, as the Army General and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC, comrade Raúl Castro stated.

La Mora, as her friends affectionately recognize her, does not hesitate to say: “Once again, fidelity to our historical roots was proclaimed. It would be put into effect from that moment, something built between all of us, because the process of consultation with the masses was arduous and fruitful, and the analyzes carried out were detailed. Everything is contained here. It is the Constitution that is tempered to the present and future moments of the country, and it is also the one that expresses the rights and duties that we as worthy Cubans have”.

Confirmation of the perfectible but inalienable Socialism that continues its march, without being daunted by threats or genocidal measures imposed by North American imperialism and its criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade against the people of Cuba, the Constitution has implied a legislative exercise, without precedent and it has also led us to ways of doing and showing that it is not a question of a formal democracy, but a real and conscious one.

“There is still an arduous road ahead, especially in terms of legal culture and institutions, issues that are very well raised in the Magna Carta. With a meticulous and precise schedule, which has had to be readjusted due to the inclement Covid-19 pandemic, but which has not stopped, the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power took on the challenge of making it possible and opening the way, to materialize in specific norms, the approved policies, the provisions and articles that make up a whole, called the Constitution".

Yenisey remembers that December 2018, when Parliament approved the Constitution, which was held in a referendum in February to finally be proclaimed in April 2019, as the Havana deputy, a doctor, like her, and Babalao, the charismatic Orlando Gutiérrez, by moving his necklaces and wristlets, with great modesty he recognized the transcendental value of the document, where fraternal and religious associations were represented, as an expression of non-discrimination, to then make his "Aché for the humble and heroic people of Cuba resound."

And to those who insist on disuniting, dismembering, revoking and even changing what, by mandate of millions of Cubans, is in living print, the doctor, with that peculiar way of saying things, from her smile as a young woman proud of the country and the Revolution that has formed her, leaves her Diagnostic Impression, with included medicine: “Don't waste any more time. It is not a Constitution for every Cuban, because that is impossible, but it is the Constitution of all Cubans and we are going to defend it with ideas and even with weapons if necessary”.
