Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Morón garantiza continuidad del curso escolar

The implementation of numerous strategies for the approach of the contents allows the students of the Arley Hernández Moreira Faculty of Medical Sciences the continuity of the studies in the distance modality, in the municipality of Morón.

Yohant Pazos Montes, president of the University Student Federation (FEU by its Spanish initials) in the aforementioned teaching institution of the Ministry of Public Health, specified that the process has different characteristics to that developed one in previous outbreaks of the COVID-19 pandemic, because they use methods of the blendedness.

“Students have access to the contents of the different subjects in the municipal directorates of Public Health or teaching sub-directorates, with the professors or teaching methodologists of the polyclinics or health areas.

"Also, work teams from the Faculty attend the health areas and the clinics to explain to them how to manage self-taught learning (what they should learn, in what time and how to dose the study) to guarantee continuity in a satisfactory way", the student leader explained.

The use of email and social networks have been other alternatives for the traffic of information and the exchange with professors and study colleagues, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have not been exempt from difficulties for the exploitation of new information and communication technologies for these purposes, however, this situation has helped us to strengthen the computerization process in the Faculty, through the creation of another computer laboratory and the improvement of wireless networks for internet connection, which facilitates and enhances access to different digital platforms to complement the teaching-learning process”, Pazos Montes highlighted.

At a time when the province is going through a complex epidemiological situation, Yohant called on the students of Medical Sciences to carry out active research in a conscious way, considering that integrated community work constitutes the main subject in their study plans, when issuing quantitative and qualitative notes and determine the final result in general training subjects that conclude with extra-class work or cumulative marks during the school period.

"The specific subjects of Medical Sciences will be evaluated after returning to the face-to-face modality," he clarified.

At another point in his dissertation, he explained that a new time adjustment scheme has been drawn up and "the new principle of Medical Sciences is that the student does not promote the year until he has completed at least 80% of the skills that they must acquire during the rotation through the different hospital services.

"An advancement of the career was programmed, evaluating the relevance of shortening the time of some subjects to take advantage of it in others that require more hours of classes due to their complexity, and in the rotations," he emphasized.

The redesign of the study plans is aimed at achieving a comprehensive training of Public Health professionals, despite the effects on the teaching-educational process during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020-2021 school year in Medical Sciences began in October and has not stopped, taking into account the importance of continuity in the training of health professionals to meet the demands of doctors in Cuba and the world.
