Their work in the Roberto Rodríguez Fernández General Teaching Hospital and in the isolation centers acquires special significance, by maintaining the security of these places, intended for the care of positive patients, suspects and contacts.

“We have more than a hundred security and protection agents (ASP by its Spanish initials) fulfilling these missions and we value the work they carry out as positive one. To date, none have been infected with the disease. We continue to improve their performance and reinforce control actions in order to improve the quality of services, ensure the care of these stablishments and demand compliance with biosecurity measures”, Justo Basanta Hernández, deputy director of SEPROC in the Morón territory, highlighted.

Yipsi Davis Toledo, head of Area No. 3, where the field hospital and one of the isolation centers (Arley Hernández Moreira School of Medical Sciences) are located, points out that they are complying with the indications of the Provincial and Municipal Defense Councils:

“The restriction of access has constituted an arduous task in the face of the ingrained custom of attending hospitals without duly justified reasons, which has required rigorous action to enforce this orientation of the Ministry of Public Health and sensitize the people.

“It was complicated at the beginning, but effectiveness has been achieved and the population, step by step, has understood that it is to protect us. In addition, we maintain the usual tasks aimed at the protection of goods and people”.

The ASP Maribel Hernández Vega, who works in one of the interior positions of the hospital, emphasizes that people “have to comply with the regulations. Most of them are disciplined and aware of the need to respect them”.

“We have managed to have an ASP on each floor. The Agency has progressively increased services in order to improve discipline and regulate the entry of people and movement to areas of greatest risk. We are responding to the call of the highest management of the country, that only the people who require medical care can attend to hospitals to minimize the risks of contagion ”, the lawyer Osvaldo Ajete Morejón, a worker at the Morón Hospital, emphasized.

Dr. Juan Carlos Villares Vázquez, director of the aforementioned health institution, described the performance of SEPROC as essential, “both in the safeguarding of assets, which has had a positive impact on the reduction of criminal acts, as well as on compliance of biosafety measures. The improvement of the joint work and the training actions allow us to reach higher standards of control”.

PROTECTORS AND PROTECTED ONES

As a consequence of the risks they assume during their performance, the Morón`s hospital guarantees the systematic check-up of SEPROC personnel who provide services in their spaces.

“100% of the workers have carried out the RT-PCR tests. They are also incorporated into the use of Nasalferon and Biomodulin T (the later one applied to vulnerable personnel: over 60 years old and with underlying diseases), with the aim of strengthening their immune system”, Villares Vázquez assured.

The ASP Gilbert Padrón Moreno confirms that the institution has taken responsibility for carrying out the RT-PCRs and supplying immunogens.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also represented a challenge for the personnel of the SEPROC Agency, whose work is transcendental in the preservation of the economic and social assets of the Cuban State, and the execution of the measures adopted in the country to contain the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Humility and simplicity describe these men and women, with few words and plenty of will to do. In the battle for life, they constitute a bulwark, although sometimes they go unnoticed and, even they themselves, do not recognize the greatness of their work.
