Covid-19: No existe vacuna para evitar el contagio

The anti-Covid-19 vaccine preparations registered by the World Health Organization (WHO), including those of Cuban origin, contribute to the strengthening of the immune system, but they do not prevent the spread of the disease, therefore, it is necessary to maintain hygienic-sanitary measures.

The clarification came from the voice of the Doctor of Science Jacqueline Díaz Luis, a second-degree specialist in Immunology, who is part of the team that directs the controlled intervention trial with the vaccine candidate Abdala for risk personnel, at the Roberto Rodríguez Fernández General Teaching Hospital in the municipality of Morón.

"What is achieved is a higher level of response of the body to contagion: the virus can be asymptomatic and, also, the chances of complications, serious and critical symptoms are reduced.

“In these circumstances, compliance with biosecurity measures is essential, fundamentally the use of means of protection, disinfection, physical distancing and the elimination of concentrations of people.

“Only in this way, we will we maintain control over a virus that is faced on the fly, since there is no previous literature to review. However, the experience accumulated over more than a year has shown that compliance with biosafety protocols is the most effective way to avoid contagion and spread. It is confirmed by the non-existence of transmission in the red zone”, the doctor emphasized.

Referring to the benefits of the health intervention process with the vaccine candidate Abdala, Díaz Luis stressed that “it will provide greater security to workers who care for suspected and confirmed patients with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and it will have an impact on the quality and reliability of medical services.

“All this avance is due to the efforts of the Cuban nation to produce vaccines that contribute to improving the health of the people in a general sense, despite the economic limitations imposed by a multi-causal crisis, including the tightening of the US blockade against Cuba. However, we have managed to develop vaccine preparations, the safety and efficacy of which is demonstrated in clinical trials,” she specified.
