Prioridades para el desarrollo económico y social en Ciego de Ávila

The food production, the promotion of exports and the improvement of the investment process are defined as priorities of the province of Ciego de Ávila to implement the economic and social development strategy in the 2021-2022 period.

Ileana Venegas Acosta, Director of Economy and Planning, emphasized the potential and commitment to the nation to fulfill the Food Sovereignty and Nutrition Education Program.

She, also deputy and member of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), stressed that all municipalities of Ciego de Ávila have capacities to export, therefore, adequate planning and management of resources are urgently needed in order to generate income and face the limitations imposed by the US blockade on the island.

"The province has seven agro-productive poles and one classified exporter, the D 'Cballos Agroindustrial Company, where 14 exportable rubles are counted and 19 products are worked for commercialization abroad," Rafael Pérez Carmenate, delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and member of the Food and Agriculture Commission of the ANPP, said.

The existence of 12 registered trademarks, with a presence in national and foreign markets; the strengthening of the structures dedicated to the cultivation of the land and the governmental measures to promote the development of agriculture, represent other guarantees to advance.

In 2022 the province will improve the investment process, so that it is strengthened and generates income in correspondence with the calculations of the feasibility studies, as the works are put into operation.

Venegas Acosta specified that the investments will include constructive actions and the allocation of resources to develop sectors such as agriculture and industry, which will favor contributions to the national economy.

"The province has developed its economic and social strategy, which defines indicators and priorities, however, not all municipalities have the same vision, nor they manage to specify it and project it over time through adequate planning to incorporate insurance," Ileana expressed.

The Provincial Directorate of Economy and Planning trains its professionals to update them on the transformations and promote territorial planning as a tool to lead and control development.
