Modificaciones legislativas incrementarán actuación de los fiscales

The draft laws that will govern the operation of the Cuban judicial system increase responsibility and bet on a more rigorous action by prosecutors, based on principles such as political rationality, equity and social justice.

The legislative proposals (Law of the Courts of Justice, Law of Criminal Procedure, Law of Administrative Process and Code of Processes) will reinforce their performance as defenders of legality, in the interest of enforcing the duties and rights of citizens endorsed in the constitution.

When analyzing these documents, the workers of the Ciego de Ávila Provincial Prosecutor's Office recognized that the modifications to this system of laws will have a positive impact on the safeguarding of the economic and social order.

Maida Montejo García, chief prosecutor of the Department of Development and Training, urged to study the documents to help enrich them, prior to their approval at the next regular session of the Cuban parliament.

In line with the policies that are implemented in the country to enhance local autonomy and achieve a rapprochement of services to the population, these bills are committed to the resolution of most conflicts in municipalities, considering the benefits of proximity for evidentiary activity and shortening of response times.

Karel Alonso Rodríguez, chief prosecutor of the Department of Criminal Procedures, stressed that greater power will be granted to prosecutors to control investigative processes and citizens will be able to establish claims when they feel their rights are violated.

María Félix Arocha Hernández, prosecutor of the Department of Family Protection and Jurisdictional Affairs, insisted on increasing the activity of the Prosecutor's Office considering the intervention in labor and other conflicts that previously did not require her presence and activism, which responds to a popular demand and reinforces the figure of the prosecutor as a defender of constitutional rights and duties.

Arocha Hernández emphasized that the new scenario requires acting with skill, insight and responsibility so as not to cause harm to citizens. "The Constitution must become a daily manual that ensures compliance with the law."

Gretel Rodríguez Moya, vice provincial chief prosecutor, stressed that the modifications will imply a change in mentality and increased preparedness. "We must consider this as an opportunity for professional growth."

The debate on the draft laws in the Prosecutor's Office, developed in all the municipalities, was attended by Ciego de Ávila`s deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power, who highlighted the role of the Institution in supporting political, economic and social transformations that run in the country.
