This June 17, historians began the day in which each year special events are dedicated to the work of these professionals, throughout and width of the country, with a floral offering in the park that dignifies the Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, in the Ciego de Ávila`s capital.

Its opening corresponded with the commemoration of the 116th anniversary of the death of the famous chief and strategist rebel, who became a revered son of the Cuban people from internationalism.

The opening remarks were given by the President of the Union of Historians of Cuba, Ciego de Ávila Branch, the Master of Science Sixto Rolando Espinosa Dorta, who explained the activities that will take place in the province, with the adoption and fulfillment of all the established hygienic-sanitary measures. This plan includes the exchange of members of the UNHIC with the ones of the Association of Fighters of the Cuban Revolution and the Secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women, broadcasting of the Bulletin of the Ciego de Ávila affiliate and the closing ceremony in the Martí Park, the July 1st, in honor to Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, a prominent researcher and historian, who on that date in 1935 received the status of Historian of the City of Havana.

At the meeting, the organization card was given to Alfredo Cadiz Muñoz, representing the “Maximo Gómez” section. The moment was propitious to present to the House of the Ciego de Ávila`s Historian the book "Tina Modotti, much more than a naked body" by the writer Reina Torres, recently published by Editorial Pablo de la Torriente Brau.

Ángel Cabrera Sánchez, historian of the city of Ciego de Ávila, in the closing, made reference to the importance of the figure of Gómez, for Cuba and especially for the people of Ciego de Ávila. He stressed that the Dominican was the precursor of Yes, You Can! that remained a lesson for the war of all the people, and that takes effect in the words and the conviction transmitted by the Army General, Raúl Castro.

“From Máximo Gómez we inherit the fervent belief in sovereignty, in independence, anti-racism, Latin Americanism, anti-imperialism and internationalism. He stands out not only for being an audacious warrior, but also the man of thought who did not hesitate to join Martí and sign the Montecristi Declaration, a genuine expression of continuity in libertarian ideals, united with the father and the always faithful husband who was until the last beat of his heart, "he said, to then evoke the words of the poet Bonifacio Byrne who stated:" Who, if he was born in Cuba, is not touched by evoking his name and his memory? We will never forget him as long as he encourages a Cuban heart on earth”.
