Elsa se debilita ligeramente y se aproxima a La Española

Hurricane Elsa during the early morning has continued to weaken slightly. It has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts and a central pressure of 998 hectoPascal.

Elsa has moved during the early morning in a course near the west northwest at a rate of 50 kilometers per hour.

At six in the morning, the center of the hurricane was estimated at 16.3 degrees North latitude and 69.4 degrees West longitude, a position that places it in the waters of the eastern Caribbean Sea about 250 kilometers southeast of Cabo Beata, Republic Dominicana and about 800 kilometers east southeast of Kingston Jamaica.

In the next 12 to 24 hours, the hurricane will continue with a similar course and gradually decrease its translation speed on Sunday, and with little change in intensity, to continue moving during the morning through the seas south of La Espñola, approaching the extreme southwest of Haiti since the afternoon, and entering the Strait of Colon since midnight today.

Given the predicted trajectory of this hurricane and the time of year, the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology keeps a close watch on this tropical organism, due to the potential danger it represents for Cuba.

The next tropical cyclone warning will be issued at noon today.
