Elsa se aleja y deja una mañana lluviosa en Ciego de Ávila

Although tropical storm Elsa moves through the seas to the south of Cuba and must make landfall at noon at a point in the Ciénaga de Zapata, the cloud pack that accompanies it produces light and moderate rains from dawn in Ciego de Ávila where, for luck, apparently that will be all.

Preliminary information from the Provincial Meteorological Center, shared on its Telegram channel, shows an accumulated 14 millimeters in Júcaro and 11 in Venezuela in the last six hours.  Precisely the South of Ciego de Ávila was the area that has received the most influence from Elsa.

At 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, the storm was located 120 kilometers south of Júcaro, the moment when it was closest to the territory of Ciego de Ávila.  The MSc.  Orlando Córdova García told Invasor that so far no significant winds have been reported anywhere in the province.

It is still too early to account for possible damages.  For now, it is comforting to know that tourists and workers have been evacuated since Friday at the diving center located in Anclitas Cay, in Jardines de la Reina. It is very possible that the effects of the storm were felt with greater intensity there, but we will have to wait for the weather conditions to improve before going to verify it, so Emigdio González, deputy director of the Marlin Azulmar Branch based on Júcaro, told Invader.

The specialists of the CMP of Ciego de Ávila indicate to observe the behavior of the rains, since they will continue to affect during the day and will subside as the tropical storm Elsa moves away from the national territory.  At 9:10 am today, satellite images show electrical activity in the back bands of the meteorological organism.

According to Tropical Cyclone Warning number 22, at 9:00 this morning, Elsa affected the central region with rains that have become strong and intense in some locations, with the highest accumulated in the province of Sancti Spiritus.  The meteorological station, El Jíbaro, reported an accumulated 152 millimeters in the last 24 hours, of which 127 millimeters between 5:00 and 8:00 in the morning;  In Topes de Collantes, Escambray, 108 millimeters were accumulated in 24 hours, of which 98 millimeters fallen in the last three hours in.

A note from the Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology explains that the clouds and rains will continue to affect the central region of the country, which will continue to be strong and intense in some locations, mainly in mountainous areas.
