Elsa: «Chin, chin» en Ciego de Ávila

Light and moderate rains, baptized in popular slang as chin chin, without considerable gusts of air, was what brought tropical storm Elsa to the province, as it passed through the adjacent seas of the southern coast of the territory.

The Júcaro and Venezuela meteorological stations reported 14 and 11 millimeters, respectively, both the closest ones to the Elsa degradation.

However, in nearby areas, such as El Jíbaro, in Sancti Spíritus, the meteorological station located there reported 127 millimeters between 5:00 and 8:00 in the morning of this Monday;  and in Topes de Collantes, in Escambray, the accumulated rain in the last three hours (until 8:00 am) was 98 millimeters, according to Tropical Cyclone warning number 22.

At the time of publication of this information, no data was reported on possible effects in the province.

It is not frequent that a tropical cyclone affects Ciego de Ávila in the month of July, and to date only one, Irma in 2017, did so with category five on the Saffir-Simpson scale, according to a study carried out by a team of researchers of the Meteorological Center of the province.
