Deporte en Ciego de Ávila no transige con la Covid

The conversion of premises belonging to the Provincial Softball Academy into a new area for the care of people from the community environment who present respiratory symptoms or similar ones, suspected people by coincidence with those that distinguish SARS-CoV-2, becomes the most recent expression of the contribution that Ciego de Ávila`s sport continues to offer in the common confrontation with Covid-19.

"Since last year, we have offered our contribution - Dr. Yilian Yaíma Castillo Sánchez, director of the clinic that the Provincial Sports Directorate has, explains - but it is now a new alternative, at the call of the authorities of the territory."

The rapid conditioning of premises and the training of doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists and nursing personnel allowed it to take off from this Wednesday, July 21, with magnificent results so far, according to Yilian.

People, who go there, such as Annia Amador, ponder the organized way in which care flows, both from the doctor and the nurse who receive, listen to and assess the state of each citizen, as well as in the area where samples are taken for rapid tests or PCR test, if the latter is necessary.

On-site press surveys confirm that a high degree of communication and guidance prevails between health professionals and patients, a detail that they are grateful for.

The clinic maintains a permanent link with the Belkis Sotomayor Polyclinic and with health managers in the municipality and province, to clear up any doubt or situation that may arise. Acting quickly when the chain of that specialized care is not interrupted or the attention that requires each person in the midst of the complex situation that Ciego de Ávila is going through.

Statements by Yoani Matías Hernández, teaching assistant director at the Provincial Sports Directorate, indicate that this is not the only contribution taking place at the moment.

Facilities such as those of the School for Sports Initiation School (EIDE) Marina Samuel Noble and the School of Physical Education Teachers (EPEF) Manuel Suárez Delgado, continue based on territorial isolation needs, according to the protocol conceived for citizens positive to the disease or suspect ones.

In both schools, Yoani emphasizes, own and designated personnel by the Municipal Sports Directorate perform food cooking tasks, direct service to patients, cleaning areas, disinfection and other vital tasks for the proper functioning of these centers.

Such an answer is not exclusive to the provincial capital.  Depending on the needs evaluated by the Temporary Work Groups in the ten municipalities, managers, technicians, coaches and other workers in the sport sector also intervene in the health control at the entrance and exit of towns and cities, courier activities, help to disabled, vulnerable or elderly people, as well as in the daily routine of the Family Attention System (SAF).
