Despite the limitations and lack of equipment and spare parts, the ambulance service personnel in the province of Ciego de Ávila maintain their usual vitality and are busy by moving emergencies and other patients, in the midst of the current epidemiological situation.

"Medical transport adds 38 ambulances, of which 21 are working today, destined for three regional bases," Carlos Ezequiel Hurtado López, director of the Ciego de Ávila Ambulance Base, told the television magazine For you.

These units are located: one in the capital city, which serves the southern part of the province;  another in Morón, which in addition to the Rooster City, deals with the territories of Primero de Enero, Bolivia and Ciro Redondo;  and the third one in Chambas, which responds to it and to Florencia.

Hurtado López pointed out that each of the Ciego de Ávila`s municipalities is covered by at least one ambulance for medical transport and mentioned, for example, that Bolivia, Primero de Enero and Baraguá have two each one.

Although number 104 is the main and best known for access to this vital emergency service, also in Morón you can call 503049, in Chambas 577873 and in the capital city 213441.

The executive informed that about two months ago they received from the Ministry of Tourism seven cars, second-hand ones, but in perfect condition, which, in the coming days, with the support of entities in the territory, should be furnished and with greater technical capacities.

As a reinforcement of the health transport activity in the current situation, 17 state media of various types have been assigned to them, and two of these even have a stretcher adapted for patients who require it.

Hurtado López highlighted that four of these cars are in the regional base of Ciego de Ávila and three in the Provincial General Teaching Hospital Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola (in this center they deal with the transfer of medical discharges and returns).

Although it is still far from being enough, the province's health transport transferred more than 150 patients only on the days of Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18.
