A purebred brown skin man, Ineldo Borrero Sarría, gets excited and laughs when I ask him what the Rooster of Morón means to him and to be able to direct the restoration of the monument where the fighting animal that represents the culture and identity of his town.

The conversation takes him back to childhood, the time when the Rooster shone and listened to the song that was captured in his memory and he never lost hope of hearing again, like most of his fellow citizens.

What he never imagined was that the renovation of that set would be in his charge. The current civil engineer and Head of the Area of ​​the Military Construction Unit (UCM) of the province of Ciego de Ávila, feels satisfied to have the opportunity to lead the small work team (five men: builders, electricians and computer scientists), that revitalizes that symbolic place for Morón citizens by restoring its splendor, sound and essence.

The work, financed by the local agency of the Ciego de Ávila Community Services Company (Comcávila) and carried out by the UCM, like all of its kind, has gone through different phases.Initially, Ineldo commented, a technical study was carried out that allowed to corroborate the constructive state of the monument, from which leaks were diagnosed in the basement roof slab, deterioration in the upper and lower parts of the tower (with cracks and exposed steel that could cause a subsequent collapse).

After having refabricated the base, the steel is prepared to mesh, form and completely rebuild the lighthouse that will once again radiate the sound of the Rooster. The grass (lawn that surrounds the sculpture) will also be completely raised, which will be on a concrete surface that will be the ceiling of the basement. In general, the whole set will be repaired.

In the depths of the monument, electricians and computer scientists are in charge of repairing the networks that supply energy, facilitate communications and allow the fighting cock to crow again. They have been there for more than a week, exposed to the intensity of the sun's rays and, from time to time, sprinkled by the copious rains of these days.

Very soon, they will start pulling the conduit for electricity. Although the execution schedule could vary, Borrero Sarría says, at the end of next week the civil works could be concluded, it would remain to accomplish the work of the electricity and computer specialists, the review of some issues with the staff of the Telecommunications Company (ETECSA ) and testing.

In short, the crow will cease to be a memory to become an incentive for a people that wants to wake up, in the broadest sense of that word, with the sound of that brave rooster in the fight, which expresses the fighting spirit of a people in the defense of its sovereignty. Therefore, it becomes a revolutionary and socialist symbol of the city, as expressed by the commemorative plaque located in the place on May 2, 1982.

The Rooster of Morón will crow again, from its upright posture, and Ineldo will return there repeatedly, as in childhood, now accompanied by his children. You will enjoy the beauty of the surroundings once again and listen closely to the song resulting from your efforts and that of the team that made a people's wish come true.
