Actuar con oportunidad ante la COVID-19 en Ciego de Ávila

Although in recent days the province of Ciego de Ávila maintains a trend towards stability and reduction in the number of daily detected cases of COVID-19, it is necessary, in certain territories, an action with a greater opportunity to stop the chains of contagion.

Despite the flattering of the general figures, it is necessary not to trust oneself, because although the positivity of the number of studied samples has a downward trend. Their behavior is not sustainable over time given the situation manifested in recent days in the municipalities of Chambas, Florencia, Ciro Redondo, Baraguá and Primero de Enero, Dr. Reinol García Moreiro, coordinator of the Ministry of Public Health explained to face the pandemic in the territory, during a session of the Temporary Provincial Working Group.

The specialist warned that, with the exception of the main municipality, in the rest the planned amount of PCR is not carried out, considering the epidemiological scenario present in each of them.

He added that the lack of microbiological surveillance could lead to a new outbreak, a statement supported by the fact that in a good part of the 475 open focus controls, the contacts of the positive cases have not been studied on the fifth day.

Another very important issue to mitigate the progression of patients to serious forms of the disease is the percentage of admission of identified suspects, to which municipalities such as Baraguá, with 10%, Florencia, with 30%, Ciro Redondo, with 38% , and Majagua, with its totality, although it detects very few, should pay more attention to it.

Precisely, acting on time is a good part of the success against the spread of the coronavirus and we are not marching at the expected pace here, as indicated in the appointment, due to the slowness in the studies for the detection of cases, as well as lack of opportunity.

This is evidenced by the fact that few cases are detected for several days and many more come out in the following days, and that not only happens because more tests are done; there is a lack of systematic work that the pandemic can collect from us later.

Regarding the vaccination process, it was insisted on not leaving anything to chance due to the coincidence with the intervention with Abdala to those over 18 years of age in eight municipalities, to which is added the vaccination of the different age groups of the pediatric population in all the territory of Ciego de Ávila.

Therefore, it is necessary to avoid crowds, organize the process in advance and, for this, have the necessary number of nurses in each center, especially in the case of children who go to vaccinations with their families. Moreover, the competent authorities reviewing the assurances of these positions, even if they are previously certified.

The increase in the infestation rates of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito cannot be neglected and the availability of funeral niche capacities, mainly in the town of Chambas. Besides, the low number of blood donations in the province, were other points debated at the meeting, which was chaired by Carlos Luis Garrido Pérez, first secretary of the Party in Ciego de Ávila, Governor Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas and Vice Governor Ania Rosa Francisco Malde.
