Recupera su flota Pesca de Ciego de Ávila

Last April, the start-up of a dry dock has allowed the EPIVILA Industrial Fishing Company to recover three of the four iron-cement fishing factories located in Júcaro, in the southern area of Ciego de Ávila.

José Osmundo López Calderón, EPIVILA's deputy director of production, informed the Cuban News Agency that having this site has made it easier for them to give general maintenance to their fleet, an action that they had not carried out for about 17 years, since it was only repaired in the dry dock of Manzanillo, in Granma, to keep in production.

These tasks, which include the construction of the entire structure of the deck of the boats, the shed and the bands, are also currently being carried out on the six shrimp operators and the envoy (boat that carries the ice to the area of fishes and collects what is caught in the sea) which are also made of iron-cement materials, López Calderón explained.

"The dry dock is certified and high size, so it can receive large and ferrous vessels, boats from the Tourism sector and those of individuals, the last one represent the greatest productive potential of the territory", the manager clarified.

In addition, it constitutes an impulse for the fishing sector, because in the southern area there is the most important fleet of the company, which is dedicated to the capture of shrimp, an exportable item; to the fishing of the sierra, which substitutes imports, and to that of scale species, he alleged.

The Fishing sector in Ciego de Ávila has two more dry docks in the northern area of the province, one in Punta Alegre, which is active, and another in Turiguanó, which is not working at the moment.

In line with what was proposed by the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to seek all possible food alternatives for the people, in the territory, family aquaculture is also encouraged in those places where landowners have mirrors of water.

They also repair the Morón fingerling center, the main area of the territory with breeding banks that guarantee the fingerlings to repopulate the aquariums with different species.

The objective of the sector is to fully exploit the capacity of the center, which is 50.8 hectares, because they aspire to diversify their productions and obtain new exportable lines.
