Celebran Día de la Medicina en Ciego de Ávila

That doctors, nurses and health institutions in Ciego de Ávila take a break to celebrate this December 3, Latin American Medicine Day, which is more than deserved after a difficult year, in which COVID-19 has forced to make double effort from each consultation, isolation center and hospital.

That is why this Friday the joys were shared and, while looking closely at the challenges of the sector, which point towards a constant improvement in the quality of services; those who wear the white coat with pride were praised.

In the central words of the act of tribute, Nilka Pita Alemán, provincial director of Health, explained that in the most complex moments of confrontation with the virus, the self-denial and determination to save of the professionals of the sector was demonstrated, despite the multiple economic deficiencies and tensions that limit the day to day.

At the meeting, the Jesús Menéndez decoration for his outstanding work career was given to Eduardo René Pérez de Corcho and the Labor Act Medal to Odalys Díaz Vázquez, Diosbel Ivonet Hernández, Ameth Rodríguez Cazo, Leticia Esquivel González and Raisel Rodríguez Morales.

Similarly, in an exceptional way, the Merit to Humanism seal was awarded to the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital, the Captain Roberto Rodríguez Hospital, the Provincial Blood Bank, and the Provincial Health Directorate. In addition, the municipal Health Directorates of the territory were recognized, as well as other institutions.

Carlos Luis Garrido, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province, acknowledged, at the closing of the meeting, that not everything is done and that programs such as the Maternal and Child Care Program or the Care for the Infertile Couple deserve multifactorial views in order to improve results. Besides, they are later reverted to the quality of life of the people. However, there are capable human resources and sufficient commitment to overcome the pitfalls and stay ahead. With those certainties, they look towards 2022.
