A local development project linked to history was approved in Ciego de Ávila for the remodeling and conceptualization of a reference kilometer of the defensive system of the trail from Júcaro to Morón.

The act of constitution of the project, which aims to capitalize on the repairing of the area, declared a National Monument and its progressive maintenance, had the participation of the Heroes of the Republic of Cuba Ramón Labañino Salazar and Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez.

Among the actions to be carried out will be the reconstruction of the fort, listening house and wire defense fence, as well as revitalization of the historical scene, which can be used for the organization of patriotic events.

The purpose is to generate income for its self-financing and to bring the people, with emphasis on children and young people, to this fragment of history, in an attractive and novel way, to allow them to appreciate a representation of the struggles of the Mambises for independence of Cuba from Spanish rule.

As part of the ceremony, the mayor of the municipality of Ciego de Ávila, Roberto Obregón García handed over the project deed to Doralis Nuez González, director of the Provincial Heritage Center, and to Maricela Torres Torres, director of the Monument.

Ángel Guerra, historian from Ciego de Ávila, recalled actions that occurred on the estates of the trail during the independence struggles, first with Antonio Maceo and Máximo Gómez and later with Camilo Cienfuegos and Ernesto Che Guevara, who crossed the defensive system in front of invasive columns.

Antonio Guerrero highlighted significant moments in the country's history, which inspire the current battles for economic development, against the pandemic or other fronts.

On behalf of his fighting brothers, Ramón Labañino Salazar, René González Sehwerert, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, and Fernando González Llort, he dedicated one of his books to the province.

Ramón Labañino stressed that with projects like this we say to the Revolution, here we are, count on us, because it is a rich and diverse way of treating history and making it known.

On December 17, on the eve of the anniversary of our liberation, he stressed, we celebrate together with the people with the message that we are the continuity of those mambises.

Today, Cuban antiterrorist fighters participate together with leaders of the territory in the opening of several works of economic and social interest, as a greeting to the 63rd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
