Priorizan desarrollo de la avicultura en Ciego de Ávila

The application of science and innovation in the fattening activity, the improvement of breeding technology and the socialization of positive experiences of state and private producers, constitute priorities for the development of poultry farming in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

Orlando Pérez Pedreira, delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in this territory, pointed out that the links between producing entities and scientific and educational centers are strengthened, with the purpose of generalizing and applying the results of research (doctoral and master's theses, and lectures with innovative proposals).

He emphasized that work is being done on the development of livestock modules and productions sustained only with unconventional food, as a palliative to the existing limitations in the country for the importation of feed.

In a tour of the different producing units, a survey was carried out on the fertility of the lands for the sowing of the food base, from which the need of 137 hectares for crops destined for animal consumption was determined, around 14 to harvest corn, the manager explained.

These actions should have a positive impact on the substitution of imports, the improvement of the breeding technology and the quality of the productions, he said.

Pérez Pedreira explained that since 2020, the province has been developing fattening rearing and, currently, there are four producers interested in poultry farming working on the creation of conditions to develop these productions, based on the benefits offered by the transformations in the agricultural sector.

He reported that work is being done on the creation of new capacities in the existing warehouses in Los Pinos Base Business Unit, in the municipality of Morón, considering that the province has 2 045 free-range breeders and there is a need to increase that figure to 4 607 in the current year.

It is also expected to grow in two modern incubators, taking into account that in the territory of Ciego de Ávila there is only one incubation plant that is obsolete, damaged and with no possibility of recovery, he stressed.

The country promotes the production of meat and eggs in poultry companies, in compliance with the measures approved to boost agriculture.
