Telefonía básica en Ciego de Ávila: perspectivas para 2022

Basic telephony is one of the services that the clients of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba Anonymous Society (ETECSA) aspire to have; however, the large investments that its deployment requires make it a trickle process every year.

In 2021 the plan conceived for the province was around 1 000 new facilities, but the use of the lines and the substitution of technologies made it possible for those 12 months to close with 2 200. “The greatest increases were in the Canaleta distribution, in the town of Ceballos, in the main municipality, and in Enrique Varona, Punta Alegre and Máximo Gómez, the latter three in Chambas”.

This was communicated to Invasor by Wilfredo José Rodríguez Rodríguez, head of the Department of General Coordination in the Territorial Division of the entity in Ciego de Ávila, who also said that in 2022 around 700 telephones that remain in Canaleta will be marketed and investments will begin in La Yuca (Urban East popular council, in the head of the municipality of Ciro Redondo).

Meanwhile, in other places, technological changes will take place by facilitating small capacities. "Among the plans in the provincial capital is the Camino de Jiquí, with a coverage of 1,500 ones, but it is something that we are still specifying," the manager held.

"Our company has proposed that no municipality has a fixed telephony density lower than four per 100 inhabitants and in this sense we have no difficulties."

This statement is based on the fact that the province closed last December with this average indicator at 12.9. “The one with the lowest is Ciro Redondo with 6.8. Ciego de Ávila presents the highest figure (17.8)”.

Regarding the transfers, Rodríguez Rodríguez explained that 2022 begins with 400 pending cases, 378 of them identified with possibilities of wireless installation.

“We have some prior to 2015 that do not reach 50, but from the most recent years there are quite a few. The oldest ones are, in general, people who have gone to live in very intricate places in the countryside and our networks have not reached there yet”, he concluded.
