As part of his visit to the territory of Ciego de Ávila, the Cuban vice president, Salvador Valdés Mesa, arrived at La Trocha Local Development Project (PDL), linked to the cultivation and commercialization of fruits and viands, and with a registered trademark in the Cuban Office of Intellectual Property (De La Loma).

There he learned about his chain with the Mariel Special Development Zone, where a truck with food and cuts of these ready for the elaboration of the so-called Cuban ajiaco leaves on a weekly basis.

La Trocha also guarantees food for the population by selling it at different points of sale, mainly in the municipalities of Ciego de Ávila and Morón, always with the projection of reducing prices, Miguel Ángel González Alarcón, head of the PDL, explained.

He also reported on the productive linkages with the tourism sector, through the sales of products and the offering of restaurant services for clients who visit the Jardines del Rey destination and undertake excursions through the interior of the province.

There, González Alarcón clarified, they have the opportunity to learn about local history, particularly aspects related to Júcaro-Morón La Trocha, an emblematic military fortification from the colonial period with an architecture and history that are attractive to outsiders.

The leader confirmed the satisfaction of the workers, who total 86 and have an average salary of six thousand pesos, in addition to appreciating the favorable conditions to perform, in progress by introducing technological improvements that will increase productivity and humanize the work in the processing industry.

As it emerged during the trip, there are projections of extending this PDL to Old Havana, which would bring the productions closer to the ZEDM, residents of the capital and other western provinces of the country.

Salvador Valdés urged to produce grains and increase cassava crops, in the latter case taking into account the scarce requirements to harvest this viand, its resistance to the onslaught of the weather and the benefits for human and animal nutrition.

He praised the contribution of the PDL to the Program for the Advancement of Women by prioritizing their involvement in different productive activities; and it was informed about the strict compliance with sanitary protocols in all areas, as a guarantee of the health of the workers and the economy.

The new type of entity is also inserted in the international market and adopts strategies in line with the country's development policies, which includes its incorporation into the housing construction program and projections for the renewal of its energy matrix through the installation of a photovoltaic park.

“What Cuba does is heroic, mature and is dedicated to materialize Fidel's thought by challenging the US economic blockade and developing in different spheres, including the production of goods and services, and the development of five vaccines to immunize his people, so that we are ahead of other nations, "he said.

Valdés Mesa conveyed confidence that "we, Cubans will move forward", for which he considered it necessary to maximize compliance with the hygienic-epidemiological measures directed by the Ministry of Public Health to prevent the contagion and spread of COVID-19.
