The municipality of Morón consolidated its scientific results in the year 2021, as revealed in the municipal act for the Cuban Science Day, opportune to celebrate 13 institutions that contributed, efficiently, to that purpose.
Three outstanding producers in sustainable agriculture were also recognized, who assume friendly practices with the environment and supplement the deficit of inputs for different crops, Zulima Díaz Montes, main specialist of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in that location highlighted.
Those stimulated institutions were the Roberto Rodríguez Provincial General Teaching Hospital, the Molecular Biology Laboratory, the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Municipal Directorate of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Bio-food Research and Coastal Ecosystem Studies centers and the university campus.
The Training Center of the Ministry of Tourism, the Military Construction Company, the SERVTES Local Development Project, El Vaquerito mini-industry, the Paquito Rosales Agricultural Production and La Estrella Credit and Services cooperatives, and producers from Los Noda farm also received awards.
The CITMA Capacity Building Center underlined the work of the Technical Advisory Council in updating the Economic-Social and Local Development strategies, and the Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education Program, aimed at increasing the production of food, goods and services to meet local needs. Morón has four agro-ecological farms and one with a School category, in addition to four livestock modules, taking into account that the priority of that locality is food production, according to the CITMA balance report in 2021.
Some 10 local development projects and five micro, small or medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) were approved in the final period, the document specified. The Turiguanó Genetic Livestock Company favored the substitution of imports by providing special and traditional cuts of meat to the tourism sector and promoting the production of protein plants for animal feed.
This entity managed to enter the international market with the export of charcoal. Besides, it is working on a collaboration project with Germany to market pork and beef in different formats.
Meanwhile, the CIBA continued its work in order to preserve and extend the breeding of the Creole pig, the rehabilitation of the coastal dunes, the sustainable production of food, the integrated environmental management with an ecosystem approach and the monitoring of the beaches.
Scientific activity and innovation were also present in the management of entities of the Ministry of Tourism and in El Vaquerito Military Construction Company, the latter with a movement of anirists that guaranteed import substitution.
In addition, the contribution of the social sciences to environmental education, values formation, vocational guidance, studies on demographic dynamics and the development of integrated community work was recognized.
The performance of the scientific group responsible for evaluating the behavior and trends of the COVID-19 pandemic in the territory of Moron was also described as positive.
In the hospital located in this municipality, the operation of the Molecular Biology Laboratory and the performance of the scientific group were consolidated, the latter with the incorporation of new members to the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the performance of clinical trials with the support of professors and researchers from scientist institutes in the country.
