Priorizan programa contra el cáncer de cuello uterino en Ciego de Ávila

The professionals of the Neck Pathology consultation of the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Hospital prioritize the program against cervical cancer with the aim of making a timely diagnosis for the most effective treatment of women with this disease in the central and south regions of the territory.

Dr. José Alberto Álvarez González, in charge of that medical care in the province, explained that in the midst of the confrontation with Covid-19, the care and follow-up consultations for women with oncological and gynecological diseases were maintained without neglecting the strengthening of biosecurity measures.

He, also a member of the Cuban Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, told the radio press that despite the uninterrupted work, the program was affected, especially in surgical treatments, which were limited by the lack of supplies, derived from the lockdown and the current pandemic.

For these reasons, cytologies and biopsies were delayed, due to the shortage of slides, spatulas and paraffin, analyzes that continue to be unstable not only for the effects of the economic siege of the United States government but also due to Covid-19, Álvarez González added.
