Pelota y Covid: Aplausos para el béisbol…y la disciplina

A meter and a half of separation between spectators and hygienic measures from the very arrival at the stadium, announced the Provincial Directorate of Sports in Ciego de Ávila for the assistance of fans to José Ramón Cepero in the debut of Los Tigres against Las Tunas next Tuesday in the 61 National Baseball Series.

The sports entity told Invasor that the Temporary Work Group for the confrontation with Covid authorized the use of 50 percent of the stadium's capacity and work is already being done on marking the entire stands.

It was also known that the cost of tickets would be five pesos for adults and half the same for minors.

However, beyond the recommendations, it is worth that both the public and those in charge of maintaining discipline in the baseball facilities, internalize the importance of complying and enforcing what is stipulated.

It would not help much if the spectators, and those who must enforce the guidelines, do not cooperate in a task in which more than a game of baseball is at stake.

We are just at the moment when Cuban mathematicians and epidemiologists have assessed that Cuban population could be entering the peak of the current wave of COVID-19 infections, but this does not mean that the battle is already won.

It is true that we, Cubans, have already asked to enjoy our main national pastime again, but it is also true that there must be a large dose of responsibility in those attending each of the games. Let's applaud because Los Tigres win, but this time we must be aware that we cannot lose.

To be victorious in this, "our baseball game", it is not necessary to shoot big hits or be a phenomenon on the mound with 100-mile throws, it is enough to keep a prudent distance and that the emotions, typical of this sport, do not allow them to lower their guard against a "little bug" always ready for the blow.
