We may or may not agree, but the song Making Faith, which the Duo Iris defended in the Adolfo Guzmán contest, had all the ingredients to win not the popular vote, but the contest. Melodious voices and lyrical lyrics embroidered in watermarks dedicated to Martí are, in my opinion, an infallible formula. Nevertheless, this is not about a singing competition.
It is, however, about a José Martí reborn 169 years after the birth at the end of January 1853. It is about the child who trembled at the feet of the dead slave and knew forever that before the yoke the star that illuminates and kills would be preferable.
It's about the war prepared quietly and boldly, an unwanted but necessary war. It's about the man with a broken coat and pockets full of money for the cause. Of the troubled father, bitten by longing and, at the same time, fueled by the compelling and immovable idea of inheriting a homeland for his son.
It goes from that elusive and inalienable concept that is still Martí today. Nobody has the absolute Apostle; it is not possible to apprehend him in a single existence. Like the mystery that accompanies us, it continues to spin the fibers of this country.
For that warm fabric of a cozy home he leaves, torch in hand.
