CTC: 83 años de aporte al futuro de Ciego de Ávila

It is no coincidence that on the eve of the 83rd anniversary of the Central of Worker from Cuba (CTC,) food production and the efficiency of the socialist state company are two of the main issues in the debate for a prosperous future.

This is how it was this Thursday 27th, from the Turiguanó Genetic Company, where this anniversary was celebrated and the 169th anniversary of José Martí's birth. The context that the country is going through forces us to bet on productivity.

For Niurka Ferrer Castillo, general secretary of the provincial committee of the CTC in Ciego de Ávila, it is clear that this is not an easy task, in the midst of a national and global crisis. “Its effects have ranged from the lack of availability of medicines —he expressed in the central words of the act— and of therapeutic oxygen, problems in electricity generation, and the lack of essential products. Undoubtedly, the decrease in foreign currency income, together with the priority given to finance the expenses of the pandemic, intensified the deficit in supplies to the population, constituting the main cause of price inflation.”

Therefore, the effort to manage the response to the pandemic, and maintain production and services, has its merits. For this, recognitions were given to Irina Iglesias Hernández, Yudelkis Borrero Escobar, Mariset Hernández Rodríguez, Yanisbey Ciprián Brito, and Anadaly Burgos Hernández, secretaries of the municipal committees of the CTC in Venezuela, Bolivia, Ciego de Ávila, Ciro Redondo and Chambas. Moreover, Dailin Sordo Peláez, from the health workers' union; Alba Lien Barrera Martínez, from the Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers; Marloida Pollo González, from the Union of Civil Defense Workers; and Venancio Rodríguez Domínguez, general director of the Genetic Company of Turiguanó.

The institution also received the status of "Ready and safe center" for its concern for sanitary measures. This work was the second achievement that Venancio listed for the year that ended: “Maintain the genetic act of the Santa Gertrudis breed, guarantee the health of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, obtain profits for more than 24 million pesos, comply with the planting plan for animal feed and maintain certified accounting”.

When in mid-2021 more than 1000 blood donations were received, in record time, from different work centers, the union movement was the main manager. Solidarity is precisely one of the values that the Cuban working class cannot miss.

“It is impossible to talk about the history of our country without alluding to the Cuban labor movement —Niurka Ferrer Castillo said — and, especially, since the creation of the Central of Workers from Cuba, with antecedents in the National Workers Confederation of Cuba, which from its beginnings, it supported and promoted the class struggles and the most important workers' conquests in the midst of the cruel exploitation of the governments of the Neocolonial Republic”.

On the 83rd anniversary, the struggles are different, and the context just as difficult. The Secretary General herself referred to the challenges: "The mere fact that we have come this far (...) says a lot about what we could achieve without those obstacles." The way? Perfect socialism, with the updating of the economic model and other endeavors such as promoting agriculture and the sugar industry”.
