Del hockey sobre césped: una mala y otra buena

As in the popular humorous program Vivir del cuento, Ángel Manuel Marín, provincial field hockey commissioner in Ciego de Ávila, tells me that he has two pieces of information to offer me: one good and one bad.

I decided to start with "the bad" and then he told me that definitely the national championships for both sexes in this discipline would not be in March, but on a date to be defined in the second half of the current year.

Of course, the above was not well received, especially by the players, since they have not seen action for two seasons. We will have to prepare for, when the time comes, not to make the sport that has given the territory the most titles look bad.

Moreover, the good one? He, also former athlete from Cuba teams tells me that the tests to verify that the glue to be used in the synthetic hockey field that is being erected in the capital of Ciego de Ávila were a complete success and that now it is only expected by the presence of Argentine specialists to turn it into reality—finally—the completion of a work that should be an example of what not to do in terms of construction.

A reminder: in September 2017, the components of a synthetic field, donated by the International Hockey Federation, arrived in the province, and what could have been done in months has taken years. Now it is affirmed that yes, that in 2022 it will be the party of those who love this discipline. If only.
