Agradece Díaz-Canel apoyo permanente del Partido de la Izquierda Europea

For us, a visit like yours is very important, at a time as difficult as the one our country is going through and, furthermore, recognizing that "it is an act of courage to visit Cuba," when so many hostile campaigns are woven around the Revolution.

This was stated by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, when welcoming a delegation from the Party of the European Left (PIE) on Tuesday at the Palace of the Revolution. ), headed by its President, the German Heinz Bierbaum.

"It is a pleasure to welcome you and share with you the experiences you have had during these days of visiting Cuba," the Head of State said, when he was accompanied by the members of the Political Bureau Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Committee Party Central, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, as well as Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, deputy head and coordinator of the Central Committee's Department of International Relations.

In his words, the Cuban president thanked, on behalf of our Communist Party and Government, the permanent support “that we have had from the Party of the European Left in our fight against the blockade; all the support that you have given to the Cuban medical missions that have been in Europe; all the campaigns they have carried out in favor of Cuba; and how they have also supported us in the vaccination campaign with donations they have made.

During the frank and relaxed dialogue, Heinz Bierbaum assured President Díaz-Canel of the great pleasure it means to be in the Greater Antilles this week and ratify solidarity with Cuba and the Cuban people.

We know very well that we have very difficult times, not only in Cuba —he valued— and I believe that the world situation is characterized by very high tensions, with complex international conflicts. Likewise, he reiterated the condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States on the Island, which he considered "the greatest obstacle to economic and social development in Cuba."

We are here to learn more and better about the situation in Cuba —he said— because there is a lot of false information, there is a lot of fake news about Cuba, and it is very important that there is authentic information. "Many thanks to the Communist Party of Cuba for organizing this visit of the Party of the European Left," he stressed.

The visit is an expression of our solidarity, but also an opportunity, an occasion to discuss the situation we are facing. We have very big challenges and we are all affected by the pandemic, commented the President of the PIE.

In particular, he shared his impressions of the visit made this Monday to the Finlay Institute of Vaccines. They are excellent achievements of Cuba in this field —he emphasized— that are not known in European countries; That is why I think this visit is important, to receive authentic information.

The delegation of the Party of the European Left, also made up of its first vice president, the Spanish politician Maite Mola, vice presidents and other leaders of the Organization, arrived in Cuba on February 12 and will remain until the next day 19. The PIE is a political organization at European level, which was established in 2004 and is made up of more than thirty political parties from that continent, which advocate for peace, the defense of human rights and solidarity.

As part of their activities in the national territory, the members of the delegation have visited different spaces of economic, social and historical interest in the provinces of Havana and Pinar del Río. Similarly, they have held exchanges with officials of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, as well as with Cuban parliamentarians and directors of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
