Alerta Ciego de Ávila ante presencia de Aedes Aegypti

The infestation of the Dengue-transmitting mosquito in Ciego de Ávila remains above the permissible levels due to the risk of an epidemic, the public health authorities alert the population to intensify the fight against the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

Dr. Domingo Molina Hernández, in charge of the Albovirosis Program in the province, said that Ciego de Ávila citizens have a very low perception of risk about the danger that the deadly disease represents for life.

The specialist of the Provincial Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology Hygiene, explained that in the months of January and February the Aedes Aegipty mosquito infestation index reached 0.24 and 0.25, respectively, when the permissible level is 0.05.

During the month of February Ciro Redondo, Majagua Ciego de Ávila and Baraguà were the municipalities with the highest incidence in the number of outbreaks detected, almost all in tanks with water accumulated inside the home.

The strengthening of the surveillance of suspected cases is one of the main actions carried out this year in the territory to diagnose, treat and isolate the sick, a task that in 2021 had deficiencies as resources and actions were focused on the coronavirus pandemic.
