The productive linkages between the Gran Caribe Hotel Group and the new economic actors in the province of Ciego de Ávila make it possible to reduce the cost of tourism operations in the Jardines del Rey destination and maintain quality standards in five-star category facilities.

Héctor Roura Gómez, delegate of that representation of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in the territory of Ciego de Ávila, stressed that more than 90 percent of the products offered in buffet and specialized restaurants are nationally manufactured and also resulting from links with the non- state.

He pointed out that this hotel group maintains negotiations with some 14 small or medium-sized companies, local development projects (PDL) and self-employed workers, a figure that generates dissatisfaction with the existing potentialities, confirmed during the recent Round of Opportunities and Businesses "Future with all ”.

The approach to non-state forms of management materializes the purpose of increasing the presence of Cuban products in the Gran Caribe facilities, based on the agreement of favorable deals for both parties, which make it possible to acquire quality goods and services at fair prices, he said.

He explained that contracts have been established with MSMEs and PDL for the maintenance of rooms and outdoor areas, the acquisition of food and setting, fundamentally.

He referred, in particular, to the links with the PDL Petalis for the decoration of interior and open spaces, and with the Chinese Association to obtain supplies used in the preparation of restaurants specializing in Asian food.

Soy sauce, for example, replaces what was received through the ITH Marketing Company and is accepted by customers.

Because of the chains, the variety of food, fruit and salads in buffet restaurants is also maintained, essential to meet quality standards related to food in hotel facilities, he added.

Supplies to this prioritized sector are subject to a weekly checkup, with the presence of government authorities, the provincial delegations of Agriculture and MINTUR, in addition to other state companies and new economic actors with contractual obligations, Roura Gómez commented.

Gran Caribe has seven hotels in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination and four (Pullman Cayo Coco, Meliá Cayo Coco, Iberostar Daiquirí and Starfish Cayo Guillermo) currently serve Canadian, Argentine and domestic clients, with occupancy exceeding the 36 000 tourists/day at the end of February.
