Ciego de Ávila: Producción de Alimentos en Asamblea de Balance del Comité Provincial del Partido

The need to increase food production, among other important issues, will occupy the center of the debates of the Balance Assembly of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Ciego de Ávila, which will be held this Friday, March 25, with the presence of 150 delegates and about 50 guests.

“Today in Ciego de Ávila there is a per capita of 27 pounds of food and vegetables per inhabitant, but we cannot coldly remain in the number. We must go to the most elementary questions and delve into the search based on the potentialities with which we have in our territory”, Carlos Luis Garrido Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in the province, said in statements this Tuesday 22 to a special magazine of Ciego de Ávila Television.

Garrido Pérez pointed out that in order to reactivate the agricultural sector, among several policies, 63 measures have been put into practice that give a different dynamic to the imperative of having a lower level of fertilizers and chemical products that require going to a more intensive agriculture to achieve food and nutritional sovereignty.

Likewise, he emphasized that this is a province in which, although fertile land with water is available, there is dissatisfaction because it has a level of empty areas that must be put into production. Besides, work on crops such as cassava, plantain, sweet potato and taro for the population, at the same time to seek to produce for the feeding of the animals in the face of the shortage of feed.

He also stressed that at the center of the analyzes of the Provincial Assembly must be the need to work to rescue a traditional and strategic sector for the country, such as the cane-sugar division, for which it represents not only the production of cane, but also its derivatives.

In the same way, it will be analyzed what is related to the work with young people, who mark the continuity, who have demonstrated in Ciego de Ávila, as in the country, their commitment to the Revolution and their participation in food production, in services, in the battle against COVID-19 and in other tasks.

The First Secretary of the Party in Ciego de Ávila also spoke about the holding of the 10 municipal assemblies. A process that he classified as critical and profound, in which the analysis was mainly focused on looking inside the Party and how, achieving strengthening the internal life, it is possible to expose a greater external life that results in results that can face the current context, aggravated by COVID-19 and the intensification of the North American blockade.
