Una medalla para creadores de la vida

This Monday, the creators of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccines received the Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization for Inventors, in the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

In a ceremony held in El Laguito protocol room, the Cuban Head of State and Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO, presented this award to the groups of authors of the Soberana 01, Soberana 02, Abdala and Mambisa immunogenic agents.

On behalf of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV), the Molecular Immunology Center and the University of Havana, architects of the Soberana 01 vaccine candidate and the Soberana 02 vaccine, researchers Yanet Climent Ruiz and Sonsire Fernández Castillo received the WIPO Medal managers of those projects.

Meanwhile, the researcher Glay Chinea Santiago, creator of the protein responsible for inducing the immune response against SARS-COV-2, which supports the Abdala and the Mambisa vaccine candidates, received the award, on behalf of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center, owner of both drugs.

Ulises Guilarte, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary General of the CTC, and Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of its Department of Attention to the Social Sector, accompanied the scientists at the time of recognition.
