¿Por qué celebramos este Primero de Mayo?

Today, I woke up thinking about a question that a friend from the "job" asked me a few days ago. Why do we celebrate this May 1st? After two years on hiatus due to the pandemic, next Sunday, the call to parade in our squares has many personal, social and authentic reasons that I would like to share as I did with my children:

Because that's how I learned it from my grandparents and my parents, who since January 1, 1959 believed in the Revolution, with its lights and sacrifices, its truths and challenges.

Because without believing that we are the navel of the world, all the spotlights point to all of us who support this process of social justice, which has been what it could have been and not what it wanted to be, paraphrasing Eduardo Galeano.

Due to marching in Cuba ceased to be synonymous with demands or claims since this Revolutionary Government deals every day with the real problems of the workers.

Since there are severe shortages, business inefficiencies and inexplicable bureaucracy, but the sovereignty of a vaccine that allows us to be alive today and the confidence we have to emancipate ourselves, without asking anyone for permission, are stronger.

As Fidel, Raúl and now Díaz-Canel have not been leaders of offices or far from their people, but of neighborhoods, of fields, of those who do not give "not even that much to imperialism", for which they deserve backing and support in days like this.

Then Cuba is not a perfect or idyllic society, it is aware of the great economic changes to be made and has only demanded that what was decided by the majority of this people be respected, not by a recalcitrant minority and servile to a government that has never forgiven socialist ideas at 90 miles.

Because to say that Cuba Lives and Works I assume as the birth born in the midst of an intensified economic blockade and the firm conviction that no one, no matter how powerful, bends our knees.

For the reason that the desires, the aspiration, the courage and the Cuban feeling to get up early and say accompany due to we: Long live May 1st!
