Estrechan lazos académicos universidades de Jaén y Ciego de Ávila

Expanding studies on historical and cultural heritage drives the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) and its Antonio Machado headquarters in Baeza (Jaén, Spain), and the University of Ciego de Ávila Máximo Gómez Báez, which recently reactivated the exchange relationship, collaboration and cooperation.

These links date back more than a decade, according to what transpired from the meeting between Elsa Fernández Rodríguez, representative of the Ciego de Ávila`s house of high studies, and Juan Jiménez, director of the Andalusian headquarters. A statement from the university informs that during the meeting the materialization of projects with the UNIA was addressed, through the Baeza head office.

"The collaboration between both universities began in 2011, with the aim of contributing to analyze and study the cultural heritage of Ciego de Ávila, according to the most innovative trends, applying the most current concepts, implementing the relationships between the use of heritage, territorial development and training Cuban teachers, technicians and professionals in these disciplines,” Jiménez said.

The researcher and technician of the Specialized Research Support Center (CEAI-UNIA), Antonio Ortega Ruiz, responsible for the projects carried out by the UNIA in Ciego de Ávila properties, also participated in the exchange.

Ortega Ruiz is the editor of the book Cultural heritage in the province of Ciego de Ávila (Cuba): Analysis and round trip proposals, published by the Andalusian University and which brings together a group of 10 authors from that Cuban province and seven Spanish, from the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia and Catalonia.

The text was presented in Spain in 2021, with the participation of the director of the headquarters, María de los Ángeles Peinado; the general consul of Cuba in Andalusia, Irelia López; the Councilor for Culture of the Baeza City Council, Rosa Martínez, and the editor of the work, Antonio Ortega.

During her stay in Jaén, Elsa Fernández Rodríguez also held a meeting with representatives of the Spanish Communist Party, in which the Declaration condemning the United States blockade against Cuba was signed.
