During the second day of the popular exercise Meteor 2022, practical activities of emergency treatment, first aid, light rescue, and other procedures for the protection of the population and their property were carried out in the province of Ciego de Ávila, in correspondence with the risk studies made.

The active participation of the community and workers in vector control tasks, tree pruning, clearing green areas, cleaning canals and unblocking the pluvial network, ditches, drains, and natural drainage were added to this.

Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas, vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, explained that work has been carried out in advance since Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National Civil Defense General Staff, visited the province and called for continuity of actions before, during and after of the Meteor exercise, to make the results sustainable.

“Priorities have not only been concentrated in the main municipality, but have also been extended to Morón, Venezuela and Majagua, danger sites for floods and penetrations of the sea. The canals associated with La Turbina have been cleaned, there are personnel from the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces supporting the work, and 19 companies and entities in the city are working on securing roofs and cleaning up the areas surrounding the ring roads.”

At the close of the event, a fire mitigation and victim rescue drill was carried out at the Ciego Norte Fuel Oil Generator Groups base business unit, in which forces from the Fire Department, the International Red Cross and the Integrated System acted. of Medical Emergencies.

The actions carried out were described as satisfactory and, in this way, the Meteor 2022 popular exercise helped to improve the management plans and the action of the people in the face of disasters.
