The will to advance in the transformation of the energy matrix, achieving a better use of renewable sources, with the aim of minimizing the impacts of climate change and favoring local development, was made clear during the exhibition fair organized by Cubasolar in Ciego de Ávila.

Rafael Pérez Carmenate, territorial delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), stressed that the vision of municipal development conceives the use of alternative energies to reduce dependence on the National Electric System and promote the programs contained in the strategies for Progress.

The use of alternative energies ensures the protection and conservation of the environmental resources required for the socioeconomic development of the province, he stressed.

He also highlighted the social impact of the installation of photovoltaic solar panels by raising the quality of life of inhabitants of isolated homes located in dark areas (not electrified), so that household needs are covered and productive activities are promoted.

Pérez Carmenate meant the contribution of international cooperation projects to the achievement of these purposes in the territory of Ciego de Ávila and the country.

The presence of children at the fair constitutes a demonstration of the work that is carried out to raise environmental awareness, so that responsible behaviors with the environment are promoted from an early age, a guarantee to safeguard natural resources and biodiversity.

According to reports from Cubasolar's Balance in the territory, work is being done on training human and material capacities to promote this task, which includes the assembly of new photovoltaic systems in entities of the state and non-state sectors, and the creation of biodigesters on farms linked to credit and service cooperatives.

On the occasion, Ramón Acosta Álvarez, president of Cubasolar in Ciego de Ávila, was recognized as an Honorary Member of that organization for the merits accumulated over more than two decades in the development of renewable energy sources.
